Winter Sunrise, Lone Pine Peak and Mt. Whitney

Mt. Whitney (on the right) and Lone Pine Peak, towering 10,000 feet above the Alabama Hills, catch the day’s first light far earlier than we’re accustomed to seeing. The combination of color, clouds, and foreground possible on a winter sunrise is ample reward for any photographer willing to brave a little chill.
