This is my first moonlight image, the one that hooked me on moonlight photography. I was in Lone Pine to photograph Mt. Whitney and the Alabama Hills, and thought it would be cool to photograph the Sierra crest by moonlight. While waiting for an exposure to complete, I saw the Big Dipper and thought it might make a nice accent, even though I wouldn’t be able to include the Sierra. So for my next composition I aimed north and put these rocks in the foreground. I only took one or two shots and had no idea what I’d captured until I returned to my room and uploaded my images to my laptop. This one remains one of my favorites.
