Everything aligned perfectly for this Big Sur sunset. Arriving early enough to anticipate the opportunity, I found my composition, readied my graduate neutral density filters (to mitigate the extreme contrast between the bright sky and shadowed foreground), and set my exposure while the sun was still hidden behind the clouds. When it peeked through I only had a 30 second window to capture the sunburst, enough to capture a small handful of frames, each timed to ensure the surf didn’t quite touch the bottom of the frame.
